A British artist named Gerald Holtom is accredited for producing the three-lined circle for peace. It was not primitively designed as a universal icon for tranquility but was intended for another purpose. It was originally formed for the nuclear disarming campaign in Britain. Holtom finished his blueprint on February 21, 1958.
