Kirkpatrick Macmillan, a Scottish metalworker, is the inventor of the rear-wheel driven bicycle. Macmillan purportedly accomplished construction of a wooden pedal driven bicycle in the year 1839 that consisted of iron-rimmed wooden wheels, a dirigible wheel in the frontage and a bigger wheel in the back that was linked to foot pedals through connecting rods.
